The Fire Marshall Challenge game was developed by the Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s Office and is based on the game show Jeopardy. It can be used in the classroom via smartboard, with one student designated to get input from classmates and select the correct multiple-choice answer each round before the timer runs out. Players can choose from a number of existing characters, or create and customize their own character, including profession, gender, clothes, headgear and much more.
The interactive quiz asks questions worth varying “dollar” amounts in three categories: General Fire Safety, Smoke Alarms and Cooking. Each correct answer elicits both applause and a summary explaining why that answer is correct and why it’s important for fire prevention or fire safety.
After successfully answering all questions in these categories, players advance to the Final Category, Family Fire Safety Plan, in which they can wager any amount of their current winnings. Players can submit their final score to the Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s Office and receive a Certification of Completion.
